AfroDuty Privacy Policy
Effective date:
AfroDuty is a browser extension that helps Malawian car buyers estimate import duty, VDP and total price to pay in MWK while browsing vehicle listing sites such as BeForward and SBT Japan.
What data we collect
AfroDuty itself does not collect, store or transmit any personally identifiable information about you.
Specifically:
- We do not ask you to create an account or log in.
- We do not record your browsing history.
- We do not store your name, email address, phone number or payment details.
What the extension reads
When you open a supported vehicle page and click the AfroDuty icon, the extension reads only the visible vehicle information on that page, such as:
- Vehicle price (CIF / total amount)
- Year of make
- Engine capacity
- Display currency (for example, USD)
This information is used purely to prepare a duty calculation for that vehicle in your browser.
Where calculations happen
AfroDuty performs all calculations locally in your browser. To obtain accurate duty and valuation figures, the extension sends the relevant vehicle information to the official Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) APIs and reads back the duty, VDP and related values.
These API calls are made directly from your browser to mra.mw over HTTPS.
AfroDuty does not operate any separate backend servers that receive or store this data.
Storage
The extension may temporarily cache scraped vehicle details (such as CIF, year and engine bracket) and exchange rates in your browser’s extension storage to improve performance and reduce repeated API requests.
This cached data:
- Stays on your device.
- Is used only by the AfroDuty extension.
- Is not shared with us or any third party other than the MRA APIs described above.
Third-party sites
AfroDuty works on top of third-party car listing sites like BeForward and SBT Japan. Your use of those sites is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. AfroDuty does not control how those sites collect or use your data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time as AfroDuty evolves or as legal requirements change. When we do, we will update the “Effective date” shown at the top of this page.
Contact
If you have questions about this policy or how AfroDuty works, please contact the developer or support team that shared this extension with you.
AfroDuty is provided as a calculation aid only. It does not constitute legal or tax advice, and final assessments remain the responsibility of the Malawi Revenue Authority and other relevant authorities.
